Founded during the Black Hills Gold Rush of 1876, Spearfish quickly grew as a food supplier and lifeline to the mining camps. With a tradition of caring for others in our roots, Dorsett Healthcare Community has been proud to serve our region for more than 60 years.

Whether you need transitional care following a hospitalization or require long-term care because it’s no longer safe to stay at home, Spearfish offers a peaceful retreat and place of healing. Our team of dedicated professionals provides the exceptional quality care you deserve.

Our Approach

Working closely with your physician, family and other healthcare providers, our team creates your individualized care program. Once you’re here, our medical director, primary physician and their teams visit frequently, assessing your current health status and adjusting your care plan as needed.

Our dedicated post-acute unit includes separate dining for rehab residents. Staffed by experienced and compassionate nurses, therapists and caregivers, we have a well-earned reputation for successfully transitioning patients back home or to a lower level of care.

Additionally, we have a memory-care unit with staff specially trained in caring for patients with dementia. Providing a homey feel with bright windows, the secure unit has private dining and an outdoor patio area. Special amenities for our dementia patients include massage, aroma and musical therapy programming. Led by dementia expert Dr. Deb Kullerd, our memory-care unit offers outstanding care and is the only one in the northern Black Hills area.

The Dorsett staff are very caring and the food is very tasty. Our admission process was very smooth and timely. Since my mother had two strokes, it became evident my Dad also needed to be placed here. Now they’re are able to share a room together.

I had knee surgery so I needed more care than I could get at home. The therapy team are all so nice and professional. They give me encouragement and faith, and are preparing me for my journey home. Dorsett is a nice and an inviting place for good rehab and overall care.
